How to Write a Fantastic Paragraph

Step 1 - Topic Sentence

Your topic sentence should tell your main idea or what your paragraph is mostly about.  It needs to be interesting making the reader to know more.

Example: Mountain Biking

If...then - If you enjoy a thrill, then mountain biking may be an excellent sport for you.

Even though - Even though mountain biking is strenous, the excitment and scenery make up for it.

Since - Since there are many mountain in northern Georgia, mountain biking is an excellent summer sport for residents.

When - When you are looking for an adventurous sport to try, consider mountain biking.

Step 2 - Body of the Paragraph

This is where you give details and explanations that relate to your topic sentence.

1. Detail then explanation

2. Detail then explanation

3. Detail then explanation

Example: Mountain Biking

Detail & Explanation 1

Mountain biking is a great way to stay fit.  I love riding my bike fast, feeling my legs begin to ache as I push the peddles over and over as I climb up the mountains.  I enjoy the excitement as my bike rushes over the rough ground and the wind stikes my face.

Detail & Explanation 2

Another amazing part of mountain biking are the views.  The views from the top of the trails are spectacular.  On a clear day you can see for many miles in all directions.  I have seen beautiful valleys full of wildflowers and rivers twisting through the trees.

Details & Explanation 3

Lastly, mountain biking is a fabulous way to spend time with your friends and family.  When I ride with my friends and family we always have a fun time talking and playing around with each other.  We take a picnic with us and sit and relax after a long strenous ride.  Sometimes when it is very hot we stop and take a dip in the rivers and lakes we find.

Step 3 - Closing Sentence

This sentence "wraps up" the paragraph.  It restates the topic/idea in a new way.

Example: Mountain Biking

As you can see, mountain biking is an exciting sport that allows you to keep fit and spend time with family all while enjoying the natual wonders around you.

Clearly, mountain biking is a great sport for anyone who loves adventure, family and the outdoors.

All in all, mountain biking is a fabulous way to stay fit and have fun with your family and friends at the same time.
